Towing Between Anchorage and the Mat-Su

Plenty of Mat-Su residents work, shop, and buy vehicles in Anchorage, so moves between the two are common. Dealer repairs, specialist shops, private sales, and body work can all send a vehicle along the Glenn Highway between Anchorage and the Valley.

Here is how we price that route, and what we need to know to confirm it.

How the flat rate works

Qualifying light-duty trips between Palmer or Wasilla and Anchorage have a flat rate, currently $420. "Qualifying" is an important word, since both ends of the trip have to fit the route. The vehicle's condition and access still matter too. The pricing page always has the current figure, and we confirm your estimate before a truck is dispatched.

A pickup outside the qualifying area, an additional stop, or a job that needs recovery work or extra loading time will change the total. For example, a vehicle sitting in a snowbank needs the recovery handled, and this is estimated separately from the transport.

Stops along the way

Eagle River and Chugiak fall along this route, and they have their own pickup zones. Rather than guessing how a pickup there is priced, send us the full addresses, and we will confirm which rates apply. Our area pages for Eagle River and Chugiak have more on those communities.

What to send for a clean estimate

  • Full pickup and delivery addresses, with business names if they apply.
  • Year, make, model, and drivetrain.
  • Whether the vehicle runs, rolls, steers, and shifts into neutral.
  • Who has the keys, and who will release and receive the vehicle.
  • Your preferred day and any appointment time.
  • Photos if access is tight or the vehicle is damaged.

Working with dealers, shops, and sellers

Commercial locations in Anchorage can be busy, and many have set hours for receiving vehicles. Ask the shop or dealer when and where to drop off, who signs for the vehicle, and how the keys are handled. Tell us about these details when you request an estimate. Avoid booking a pickup at closing time on a Friday if you can, as a closed gate could leave everybody waiting.

If you are buying from a private seller, arrange for the seller to be there with the keys and paperwork. Payment should be settled before the truck is due, since the operator cannot sort out any disagreements between the buyer and seller. Having the title and bill of sale ready before pickup helps everything go smoothly.

Planning around the Glenn

The Glenn Highway between Anchorage and the Valley is busy at commute times, and it is exposed to wind and winter weather, particularly around the Knik and Matanuska river bridges. A crash or bad storm can cause long delays, and options for getting around a closure can be limited. If your appointment is firm, tell us when you request an estimate. Scheduling outside rush hour can help, and allowing some margin is better still.

If you are stranded right now

If you are broken down on the highway instead of planning a move, call or text us rather than using the online form. Share your location, direction of travel, and nearest milepost or exit. If you are in a traffic lane or anyone is hurt, call 911 first. Our Glenn Highway breakdown guide covers the safety steps in detail.

Same-day or scheduled?

If the vehicle is safe where it is, scheduling ahead gives you more choice over timing, and it gives the shop or seller a chance to be ready. If it is blocking access or the location is closing soon, say so when you ask for an estimate, so that we can tell you honestly what is possible that day.
